The Birds

How many of us when we see a large black bird, in a group, think of Hitchcock’s The Birds? A bad rap for two very interesting birds – the crow and the raven.

Luckily, where I live, both a common visitors. But both, surprisingly, are very flighty (sorry for the pun) and take off quickly when you try to get near them. But one evening recently a murder of crows or an unkindness of ravens swarmed the trees behind the house.

What was interesting with this group is that they had young with them who were very hungry and demanding. They wanted to be fed. If you look closely at the photos you will see that some of the birds have red around their beaks. Apparently, it is thought, this coloration is an indication to the parents that they need food. As if it was hard to discern that from their cries.

In any event, I had a wonderful few moments watching the interaction of these feathered souls.
